Hi there

I am just going through the process of the consumer credit licence but before I actually hit the submit button I would juts like to clarify a couple of things as paying out the money when you can't get it back if you get refused is a bit worrying.

On the credit licence when they "check you out" what do they check for?

also if I have adverse credit myself will that make them refuse my licence

Many thanks in adavance

Its up to the OFT whether they refuse a licence or not. I am not sure how bad your credit rating would have to be, before they would refuse a licence, OFT doesnt seem to want to answer questions like that. They will definitely check for criminal activity and fraud. They will also check if you have been bankrupt or been into liquidation, or been involved in a company that has something of that sort on record. What categories of licence have you applied for?

We have applied for Cat A licence as we would like to do the Doorstop lending.

Is there any sort of independent organisation/body that could advise on this??

Have you tried asking the OFT directly? It might be worth a try. Let us know what you find out. - Gina Smiley

That is just about what I would have expected them to say. The other response is that they "treat every case on its individual merits". Did they tell you to submit a CRP1?

Ok, the questions that they ask when they come to see you are mostly related to the answers that you gave on the CRP1. They will try to get you to substantiate the statements you gave in your answers relating to relevant experience, where you are going to get your agreement forms from, how you are going to ensure compliance etc. They usually ask to see samples of documents that you intend to use in the course of your business etc. among other things.
