What is a brand
From birth we make thousands of choices that will decide what sort of person we grow up to be; good or bad, reliable or untrustworthy, smart or scruffy, cruel or kind, industrious or idle. The way we look, the way we act and everything we say or do, can affect the impression we make on the people around us. We call this our reputation, and it can determine how succesful we become in life.
It’s exactly the same for a company, and we call it a Brand.

It’s easy to stand out from a crowd...but it has to be for all the right reasons
Primarily, it’s you logo that gives you a recognisable face in a busy world and stamps your name on your products, but it’s what people think when they see our logo that counts it carries with it your reputation for reliability and trust that may take years to establish. It is important to convey all aspects of your brand with positive, clear communication.

You can never afford to be complacent
Your reputation or Brand has its foundations in the quality of the things you make and/or the services you provide. A Brand is only as good as the reputation that builds it.

Consistency and harmony
Although we all have our own unique and individual personalities, your customers need to know that they are talking to a company that has a single unified voice.
For this reason you need to have guidelines and rules that you and your staff can all follow to ensure that each element of brand communication is consistent.

Don’t let all your efforts go to waste
As a business you set yourselves tough targets to make the best possible impression on customers and other audiences. This impression is based not just on your products or services but also on the customers impression of every one of your staff. If one part of your actions falls below the standard that your customers expect, then their overall perception is affected.

Yes, but who decides whether the brand works or not, and when and how can you test this early enough to make a difference??

Ultimately the buyer/customer decides if the brand works? If they keep returning to buy from your company??

Was that a rhetorical question, because it would be interesting to get an answer from an expert ;]

Its never possible to prove before release that a brand/rebrand is going to be successful. Doesn't matter how many focus groups, opinion poles etc you put in place, its still very difficult to judge how the general public will take to it.

Take for example the 2012 London Olympics Identity, this went through many stages including focus groups to try and please a wide age range while still being future proof as its got to stand up when we actually reach the games in 2012. As we know it was not very well received by the mainstream.

In my opinion -A Brand is your Company name and your Logo is a representation of your Brand.
Brand Awareness is all about "in your face", if you see a Company's (product/service) Logo often enough it will be ingrained in your mind.   Then next time you see it you will not need to read all about the product as you already know what it is,
eg
Boots, we all know that Boots is a chemist but it doesn't have the word chemist.
Kodak, we all know they sell cameras, films ect, but all you read is the word Kodak.
So the more your brand name is out in the public eye, whether through adverts, on vehicles, TV etc the more aware people become of your product/services (Your Brand).

By the time it comes along (if we're not 'apocalypsed' by then) no one will care about it any more! Wink

A brand from a holistic and big picture perspective is beyond a product or logo. It is all about the totality of the organization. This means that a brand include- product, services, employees, cars, and anything tangible that can be link to the company. Beyond the tangible attributes a brand also include all the intangibilities that can use to identify or associate with a corporate entity. Reason everything in organization is a brand and organizations must ensure its' brand communicate it uniqueness completely.

Thanks.

There's some good information there. A brand is what people trust - not the company name or logo or business itself. If you have the customer's trust, there are more likely to stay loyal. For that reason, brands are very important to a successful business.
