Hi,

I just want to test the existing SEO Companies knowledge on the subject of "Flash & SEO"; so I will start by asking the following question:

Flash is widely accused of harming search engine visibility – this is the main reason as to why so many SEO companies/individuals are concerned about using Flash on their websites – this is undeserved in my opinion. What is your opinion?

Everyone’s participation would be really appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Hi Everyone,

No replies - interesting. Sorry for my absence, I was waiting for more/some replies Wink

Yes Google can now index flash content on sites, here is an updated url:

And for those who want to investigate this further, check this out:

And witness some really cool experiments.

shouldn't that read that Google can get data from flash, and can index SOME flash etc. It is a slippery slope tpo make such a sweeping statement that 'Google can index flash', because some will take that to mean that the same SEO  benefits can be gained from flash as normal markup, and that simply isn't the case is it?

Hi,

If it's good enough for Google to state this, then it's good enough for me. Isn't it?

Times are a changing for all those wannbe SEO experts Wink seriously.

Wanabee SEO's now THAT made me laugh, up until that point I was prepared to debate with you, but ignorance is a trait I refuse to pander to.

You do what you want, and I will do what I want.

I note that you didn't answer the question of whether or not the same SEO benefits are gained from flash as from standard HTMl etc?  'if it is good enough for google to state this'? What HAVE they stated, because having read that document they have stated exactly what I stated, rather than your view of what they stated.

Hi,

Sorry for winding you up Wink

And yes you are right, it is most favourable to use some flash elements rather than a full blown flash site. And yes HTML is better for SEO.

Flash is fantastic for what it is and what it does best, and I have absolutely no doubt that someone like you who knows what they are doing can call files in xml etc into the document, and in doing so make it very SEO friendly.

But just as cold fucion is a superb planguage if done right. it is also a pig if done wrong Sad It was for the uneducated masses that I question what you said, honestly it wasn't personal, so i am glad it was handled as a pair of old pro's Smiley .

yes google can 'index' flash. probably meaning just meta details (brief) or if a html backsite is used for search engines. Remember flash is images and currently their crawler doesn't index text from images. I think the recent acquisition of recaptcha will change this though (hopefully) Smiley

Oh google can read text from flash (depending on how it is constructed) Smiley it can pull it out, but it is just mumbo jumbo text. out of context with no formatting etc, no link benefit (although they can use flash for url discovery)
